Air source heat pumps use a reverse refrigeration cycle to generate heat from the outside air. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, under floor heating systems, or warm air convectors and hot water in your home. An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside. It can get heat from the air even when the temperature is as low as -15° C.
Air source heat pumps (also known as ASHPs):
The Energy Saving Trust says that a 'typical' air source heat pump could save you up to £330 (replacing electric heating) a year. This technology can be used for a range of different applications including, heating houses, churches, temples, shops and office spaces.
